Another Feminist Blog: Feminist: The Label

iamateenagefeminist:

I’ve noticed that when I am not in a progressive atmosphere (or even sometimes when I am) and I label myself as a “feminist”, I almost always lose all of my credibility.

I am no longer an educated young adult, I am a “crazy feminist”. People stop taking me seriously….

yes yes yes me too me too! I hear you sister!

oh yes, yes indeed.

What I do with my spare time. Make adorable cushion covers! the screen prints were done earlier this year, and i”ve been itching for a chance to turn them into something. You like?

FREEDOM (and what to do with it.)

Exams are over. Schoolies is over. So what to do? I KNOW! Sew! bought a pattenr for a 1950’s day dress this morning, and its nearly finished by dinner time. two-tone with florals and a lilac contrast. Very cute.

although, because i am special, i managed to cut out the size 8 not the size 10, so now i am having to make adjustments and add bits in to make the darn thing fit me! grrrr. I’m too keen for my own good sometimes. Nevertheless, I’m sure it will look just dandy when it’s done, and i promies to follow up with photos. Its a really easy pattern, and when i’m done with this floral one I plan on making a little sailor-themed one with navy blue and red ric-rac on the hem. Oh, sweet freedom!!!

this pretty much sums up how i feel now that exams are over.

Revolutions and Women…

last exam to go! History: revolutions.

Its funny, learning about communism in Russia and China and how brutal the society was that came out of it. But despite this, especially in China, they were way ahead of Western society in terms of womens rights. Really interesting. Mao caused so much death and pain, and suppression, but he granted women all these fundamental rights. I find it kind weird to learn about. How did a society so full of destruction and restriction deem to give women rights like this? it shoudnt make sense. I guess it might just be lost in translation somewhere between East and West. hmmm…..

Also, our history teacher who is a fabulous man, pointed out something. The very spelling of Histoty. His(story.) it so is too. the only time you hear about women is when they;re married to revolutionaries or famous men. Its frustrating. And the ones you do hear about are written so unforgivingly (for all i know they could have been aweful) but it seems odd. Dowager Empress Cixi and Jung Qing, Mao’s wife. maybe a bit backward, but the way historians write about them is so unforgiving.

Hmmm anyway! back to the books! ill be a free woman by Wednesday!
